Don’t Tell Me Your Vote Doesn’t Count

I just wrapped up another active political campaign season.  In my line of work I often hear that one vote doesn’t really make a difference.  “Why vote?” people ask me.  I usually roll out some fairly patriotic response in an effort to guilt them into submission.  Since last Thursday’s election I’ve had a lot more to back up my argument for why everyone (who can) should vote.

The main race I was involved in, a State Senate race in Tennessee, had a total of 16,000 people vote.  The winning margin was 40 votes.  The winner won by only 40 votes!  That’s less than  1/10th of 1 percent.  In a local race for County School Board the winner won by 1 vote on election night, and had a provisional vote added to his total later making the winning margin only 2 votes!

All politics are local.  I maintain that more decisions are made at the state and local level to affect our everyday lives than ever will in Washington DC..

It matters who governs.

Voting is a privilege, don’t waste the opportunity.

Your vote indeed counts….just ask the candidates in the races I mentioned above.

Dear GOP, Don’t Blow It!

I’m writing this in the midst of watching election returns. I joked, saying that Election Night is my Superbowl, but tonight is truly historic!

Let’s be honest, the GOP hasn’t really done a whole lot to get these votes. All they’ve really done is stand up against an Obama agenda that lacked results and has been wildly unpopular. They’ve not inspired anyone, offered any results, or offered better ideas. People are angry, they’re scared, and they’re tired of the same. That’s what tonight’s landslide GOP victory is all about. This is how midterms go. It’s all about the President and the majority party. Think back to 2006, it was ugly for the GOP. Times have changed! It’s a bad year to be a democrat.

Either way, a W is a W! A win is a win! I’m not so concerned with how and why we won, as much as I am the fact that here in Tennessee it was a total bloodbath, and across the country Conservative victories dot the map. We won tonight! Conservative values won!

Tomorrow it starts, it’s on our watch, what happens next is on us. So DON’T BLOW IT!

The contract with America worked, until we stopped following it. We can’t make the same mistake again. This is the third landslide election in a row. 2006 (Anti- Bush, Iraq Vote) 2008 (Anti-Bush and Cooler than cool Obama) 2010 (Anti-Obama agenda vote). Another landslide turns things back over to the Dems. We have a shot, we got a 2nd chance, we hold the purse strings now. We can’t blow this…

The House belongs squarely in the GOP column, Pelosi is out of a Job. The Senate will stay in Dem control. If we’re not careful, Obama will spend the next 2 years blaming Republicans in the House for the continued poor economy, and lack of “change”. If we’re not careful, he’ll woo the voters back, and be cooler than before, and win re-election in 2012.

GOP needs to find a message, and stick to it. We can’t just be the party of no. We can’t just be the party of Anti-Obama. We have to share better ideas. We have to stick to our conservative values, and lead with them. We need to step out of the stone age and communicate to the voters in the 21st century. We have to step up, rise the occasion, and not let this chance pass us by.

The next election, 2012, will be another defining election. It doesn’t have to be an Obama re-election. But that all depends on how we start tomorrow. It all depends on what we do for the next two years. All that matters is what we say, and what we do.

People want results, and they’ll vote for the party who can give it to them. This country is center-right, and tonight can be the beginning of a new era.

GOP, You’re on deck, don’t strike out!

The Next National Debate

USA / Mexico Border

On the heels of a forced and flawed healthcare bill, punch drunk democrats will begin to move on the immigration issue.  What should be handled as a national security issue will be made into a moral issue, and opponents labeled racist and without compassion; the new strategy of the liberal democratic party.

We currently pay billions of dollars a year educating, medicating and incarcerating illegal aliens.  All the while, our liberal friends are recruiting them as potential voters.

I am proud to live in a country that has been a bastion of hope for over 200 years. The United States is still the envy of the world, and people seek to make a life here because of it.  I welcome them!  I invite them! Their hopes and dreams can and should find a home within our borders. We must provide a strong immigration system while maintaining the rule of law.  Our process should be efficient and fair to those who want to enter our country legally.  For those who do not, we must be prepared.

First off, this is a problem in four parts.  (Economic, Healthcare, Legal and National Security)  Each part must be dealt with uniquely.

Illegal immigrants are a drain on our economy.  K-12 expenses for illegal aliens broke past $7 Billion in 2006.  Illegal aliens consume $3.7 Billion in Medicare and Medicaid benefits.  $1.1 Billion is spent annually on prison costs.  A Shocking $17 Billion are sent back to Mexico annually by illegal aliens making it Mexico’s 2nd largest industry.  THEIR 2nd LARGEST INDUSTRY!!!

Over 40,000 “Special interest Aliens”, aliens from so-called “countries of interest”, were apprehended on our northern and southern borders in 2004 alone. This presents an enormous national security issue.

This is a large issue, and involves many solutions.  Amnesty is not an option!  Enforcing the laws we currently have on the books would be a good start.  The punishment for illegals crossing our borders should be severe.  And we must create an efficient and fair system to welcome immigrants legally.

Legal immigrants MUST assimilate.  The United States is a Melting Pot, not a Salad Bowl.  Legal immigrants must learn and speak english.  They need to know and adapt to our customs and culture.  Legal immigrants need to be independent of welfare.

This is all possible, as long as you don’t buy the liberal policies of creating dependancy and again growing role of government on this issue.

More in the coming days, weeks and months…

Democrats are Wrong!

How does a Congress with a 14% job approval rating, ram a flawed healthcare reform bill down the throats of the American public, and then have the audacity to claim “the people’s voice has been heard”?

How arrogant and misguided can you be?!

The reform that was passed yesterday will no doubt raise taxes, crush small businesses, drive the costs of health care even higher, and create even more red tape and big government. Obama wanted to create jobs: he just created 16,500 new jobs in the IRS alone to manage Obama Care. Pathetic.

Democrats claim victory on principle that healthcare is a right, and they’re wrong. Healthcare is NOT a right.

Maybe not today, and maybe not tomorrow, but this step in the wrong direction will lead our country down a horrible path.

Democrats are fundamentally flawed in their approach to social policy in this country. We need to promote fiscal responsibility, personal responsibility, and shrink the size and scope of our government! We need to return to the values and principles our founding fathers built this nation on!

I am not a racist, a homo-phobe, narrow-minded, ignorant, and I don’t lack compassion.

I am a christian, I am a conservative, and I am MAD!

Letter to the President

Not the first to post this, I am sure, but it’s worth a read…

The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington , DC 20500

Mr. Obama:

I have had it with you and your administration, sir.  Your conduct on your recent trip overseas has convinced me that you are not an adequate representative of the United States of America collectively or of me personally.

You are so obsessed with appeasing the Europeans and the Muslim world that you have abdicated the responsibilities of the President of the United States of America .  You are responsible to the citizens of the United States .  You are not responsible to the peoples of any other country on earth.

I personally resent that you go around the world apologizing for the United States telling Europeans that we are arrogant and do not care about their status in the world.  Sir, what do you think the First World War and the Second World War were all about if not the consideration of the peoples of Europe ?  Are you brain dead?  What do you think the Marshall Plan was all about?  Do you not understand or know the history of the 20th century?

Where do you get off telling a Muslim country that the United States does not consider itself a Christian country?  Have you not read the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution of the United States ?  This country was founded on Judeo-Christian ethics and the principles governing this country, at least until you came along, come directly from this heritage.  Do you not understand this?

Your bowing to the king of Saudi Arabia is an affront to all Americans.  Our President does not bow down to anyone, let alone the king of Saudi Arabia .  You don’t show Great Britain , our best and one of our oldest allies, the respect they deserve yet you bow down to the king of Saudi Arabia .  How dare you, sir!  How dare you!

You can’t find the time to visit the graves of our greatest generation because you don’t want to offend the Germans but make time to visit a mosque in Turkey .  You offended our dead and every veteran when you give the Germans more respect than the people who saved the German people from themselves.  What’s the matter with you?

I am convinced that you and the members of your administration have the historical and intellectual depth of a mud puddle and should be ashamed of yourselves, all of you.

You are so self-righteously offended by the big bankers and the American automobile manufacturers yet do nothing about the real thieves in this situation, Mr. Dodd, Mr. Frank, Franklin Raines, Jamie Gorelic, the Fannie Mae bonuses, and the Freddie Mac bonuses.  What do you intend to do about them?  Anything?  I seriously doubt it.

What about the U.S.. House members passing out $9.1 million in bonuses to their staff members – on top of the $2.5 million in automatic pay raises that lawmakers gave themselves?  I understand the average House aide got a 17% bonus.  I took a 5% cut in my pay to save jobs with my employer.  You haven’t said anything about that.  Who authorized that? I surely didn’t!

Who authorized that and why haven’t you expressed your outrage at this group who are largely responsible for the economic mess we have right now.

I resent that you take me and my fellow citizens as brain-dead and not caring about what you idiots do.  We are watching what you are doing and we are getting increasingly fed up with all of you.  I also want you to know that I personally find just about everything you do and say to be offensive to every one of my sensibilities.  I promise you that I will work tirelessly to see that you do not get a chance to spend two terms destroying my beautiful country.

Sincerely,

Every real American

Love, Hugo…

CB Trinidad Americas Summit Obama I guess it could have been a joke? “I’ll give the President of the USA a copy of my favorite book as a slap in the face, and see if he gets it!” Well, he didn’t, and he still doesn’t…

Of course the White House is denying any friendly activity between the two on the President’s recent trip to Central America.  Pictures tell a different story.

Obama himself calls upon the political capital he earned in the 08′ Election by claiming that it was a referendum on how the President should approach his peers in the world.  I agree, the 08′ election was certainly a refferendum, but it certainly doesn’t give President Obama the right to glad hand every communist kook in our corner of the world.

First there was the bow…now the book.BRITAIN G20 PALACE  And about that bow, another denial backed up by art.  But again, we’re supposed to accept the fact that it’s what the voters wanted.  I rather, think they just didn’t want McCain.  I don’t believe, as some right wing crazies (or as Homeland Security defines them – “domestic terrorists”) do, that Obama was subjecting himself to an Islam leader.  Instead, I think he was too ignorant to know what to do.  bad staff work.

Chavez, is a different story…

CORRECTION APTOPIX CB Trinidad Americas SummitSure looks like they’re palling around to me.  I know, I know….they probably didn’t order pizzas, stay up late, and talk, but do you really think a giant smile and a warm handshake is the way to go.  Hugo was playing for the cameras, and Obama just plain got played!

Bottom line, Hugo, Iran, and Cuba, he’s lining up the tri-fecta!  It’s one thing to work with you peers on an acceptable level.  I just don’t agree that these three should even be given a respectable seat at the table.  Act like a world power, get treated like one.  Obama, rewards the bad kids and sets up uncertainty for the future.

More sarcasm from me today then eloquence….oh well, some days thats just what you’re gonna get!

The Not So Silent Majority

Did the President, Congress, and the Media miss the point on Tax Day? The outrage felt by average citizens toward their elected officials has spawned protests throughout America. First time protesters who don’t know how to protest, the silent majority, the hard working folks who usually do not take time off to let their voices be heard, are standing up for their rights and their freedoms. Yet the media and the administration ignore or belittle what is going on.

Media outlets are downplaying, ridiculing, and trying to render inconsequential a genuine outpouring of patriotism. The outpouring of sentiment at most protest sites typically culminated in the singing of patriot songs and chants of “USA, USA”, pretty wholesome stuff. Yet the media–ever the willing accomplice of intellectual elites supporting a not-so-gradual slide of this country into socialistic oligarchy–resorted to 7th grade humor and snickered at the Tea Baggers (it was funny for about 30 seconds). Congress and the administration seem confused and unprepared to deal with the issues raised by mainstream America.

The administration asked: So why do the people protest? We cut taxes.

The United States Constitution is 7000 words long. By comparison, the Stimulus Bill is 1073 pages. And apparently Congress and the President have read neither. Congress and the President seemed to look out on the masses and say, “We cut taxes on 95% of working Americans- they should be happy. Is that not what they are asking for; is that not what our polls say we should do?” Not since Marie Antoinette looked out at the starving throngs, and proclaimed, “If they have no bread, then let them eat cake,” have the political elite gotten it so wrong.

Assuming that the tax cut for 95% of working Americans is accurate; it would still not be the issue. The tax payers are not anarchists, nor are they unrealistic; they know that taxes are necessary to run the government. The politicians are not stupid; they understand that if they tax everyone into oblivion, the system will collapse before they can pass the problems on to the next generation. Rest assured, we will always have just enough disposable income for our trinkets and niceties, but not enough to retire without the patronage of our government.

Let’s put it in terms that Congress and Wall Street can understand. Imagine the Stimulus Bill is a very large opulent house that the taxpayers can not afford. Sound familiar? So the banks (in this case, the leaders of Congress) say, “Pay no attention to the cost of the house. Look at how low these payments (taxes) will be. We will extend the terms to 150 years.” Meanwhile, the selfish generation can go on buying the things that make them feel good: flat screen TVs, I-Pods (one in every color), and cell phones for their five year olds..

It is not the tax cuts or inevitable tax increases, it is the disregard for the fiscal future of the country and the arrogance with which the administration has offered up their stimulus and three trillion dollar budget.

The media asked: Why do the people protest? They are represented in Congress.

In 1773, patriots protested taxation without representation and revolted against the freest society in the world in order to create a freer society. Today, the media and power elite wonder why people who are represented, and who are freer than most, would protest. It is simple: their freedom is under attack. The people are no longer represented by their elected officials. When a representative can vote for $789 billion in spending, without reading the bill just because their leadership told them to, then they no longer represent their constituency. They represent a small group of elite power brokers led astray by an unconstitutional alliance between business and government.

So again, why do the people protest?

Throughout the day the media and their pundits questioned the motives of the people. “Where were the protesters when Bush was spending too much money?” They have a point; we were complacent. Americans put all our faith in two parties, neither able to navigate the rising tide in a sea of bureaucracy. Though separated by minor principals, each ebbed and flowed in the same political waters. And the spending ship, no matter the party, does not turn on a dime.

We consistently voted, not for principals, but for the ‘lesser of two evils.’ I don’t like her fiscal policy, we told ourselves, but she is strong on the environment. He is a Republican, we would think, so at least he won’t spend as much as the other guy. Not so. Both parties squandered our futures and our freedoms. Both parties took liberties with our liberties. They are both big government. That big Government did what Governments do; it grew by its own nature and by our complacency..

The line between public and private enterprise blurred. Unelected judges’ and staffers’ influence increased as the growing bureaucracy fed upon itself. We commented, “You can’t fight the government,” in reply to the State’s incremental encroachments upon our freedom. Too many times we said, “The government should do something about that,” and look where we are today.

We elected a President and a Congress who have burdened our children, and our children’s children with an immeasurable debt. To “stimulate” our economy back into the Starbucks-drinking, new car-buying frenzy of unaffordable home ownership that it had become, without regard for the problems that got us their in the first place, our elected officials chose the easy way out. They chose to steal from our future rather than suffer the failure, the hardship, and the plummeting poll numbers of our present. Debt stacked on top of an already staggering debt.

Debt is not the way of free men and free women.. The follies of the stimulus are not the will of the people. We are not a kept society dependent upon the masters in public office for our livelihood. The consequences of our government’s actions–every child born in America will be born owing this government tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of dollars. It has been said that “the borrower is slave to the lender”.

Our Children have been sold into Slavery, for a cup of Starbucks and few approval points.

That, Mr. President, is why the people protest.

…I wanted to share this. Do the same…

2008 Election

I blame republicans!

In 1994 Republicans swept Congress, and took control, all in the name of “Change”. Instead of affecting change in Washington DC, they let Washington DC change them. I voted for President Bush twice. I don’t spend much time defending he and the republican party, mostly because they make it pretty hard to defend them. It has been a disaster. John McCain was not my first pick, and I think the choice of Sarah Palin was a stupid stunt. I am not surprised we got our tail kicked last night. The GOP earned it.

Never the less, I am disgusted at the outcome of last night’s election.

I am proud of my country for reaching the point where we can elect a black man President of the United States. I am proud to see history made in my lifetime. I am hopeful that it will be another step in healing the deep racial scars our country has. I admire Barack Obama for being the first Black man elected to the Presidency. And that is where my admiration stops.

I talked with many friends who were supporting Obama in his bid for the White House. Sadly, I could never get a legitimate, coherent reason for why they were. Of the dozen or so people I talked with, only 1 person gave me what I would consider to be a good answer. All I ever asked for was 3 reasons why they were voting for him. Inevitably, I got a list of reasons they hated George W. Bush, and Republicans. Except for that one individual, I never once got a policy or stance of Obama’s that they like and could articulate. Last night people voted for change, but they have no idea the change their going to get.

Socialism: A theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole. (dictionary definition)

Barack Obama is a socialist. I don’t say that out of hate. I am stating it as a fact. Look at his past, his up-bringing, his associations, and his policies and you can see for yourself. If you can’t admit that, you’re either ignorant, or in denial. If you like socialism, then he is your guy. Me? I am still a fan of capitalism. I’ve talked to people who say capitalism is flawed, and they quickly point to the recent economic crisis as proof. I could write an entire blog on the economic crisis, but the source of the crisis is not a flawed capitalistic approach, it is a result of greed and corruption. You could argue, that capitalism breeds both greed and corruption, but I think thats an overstatement. Our flawed human nature is what breeds greed and corruption. If we’re comparing flaws, it seems to me that socialism will breed laziness and ignorance.

It sickens me to see so many people in our country expecting a hand out. The policies of Barack Obama will only increase that. Yes, there are people less fortunate. Yes, there are people who don’t have all the chances in life that I do. Yes, there are injustices in the world. I do NOT believe that government exists to fix all those issues. As a conservative, I believe the only reason government exists is to provide for the people, that which they cannot provide for themselves. Education, healthcare, business, are all areas where we the people can provide better for ourselves than our government has. Government doesn’t exist to save us! It is there to ensure domestic tranquility and provide for the common defense.

I believe in personal responsibility, and that is not a virtue democrats hold dear.. Instead we see other approaches. Only government can rescue people from the consequences of their own decisions. Only government programs can provide for your every need, and only government can use your money wisely enough to ensure your needs get covered. Individuals cannot possible manage to help their neighbors through their churches or community organizations, let along encourage people to do for themselves.

Obama made a speech in February of 2008 at UCLA. There he made one of his beautifully eloquent statements. “We have lost the understanding that in a democracy, we have a mutual obligation to one another – that we cannot measure the greatness of our society by the strongest and richest of us, but we have to measure our greatness by the least of these. That we have to compromise and sacrifice for one another in order to get things done. That is why I am here, because Barack Obama is the only person in this who understands that. That before we can work on the problems, we have to fix our souls. Our souls are broken in this nation.”

What a beautiful, touching statement, and how tragically flawed. When my soul is sick or broken, please Barack, please don’t try and heal it. you are not my savior. I have a higher one. The saddest and most frustrating part of this is that I am labeled racist and insensitive for believing the way I do. So the handouts will continue, the laziness will increase, and spending will continue to spiral out of control. After all, it costs a lot of money to save someone’s soul.

“The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.” – Thomas Jefferson

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the public treasury. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most money from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by dictatorship.” – Alexander Tyler, speaking not of the United States, but of the fall of the Athenian Republic. This quote is over 100 years old.

You wanted Change? Congratulation, you’re going to get it. I doubt you know the change you just voted for yourself. It is not the end of the world as we know it. But it will be a very bumpy ride, and you better believe I plan on holding President Obama’s feet to the fire when it comes to the promises he made.
